Synopsis
Eugenie Markham is a freelance shaman, guarding our world from the invasion of Otherworldly creatures. Those who try have "The Dark Swan" to contend with. But Eugenie's about to cross into the Otherworld alone to rescue a girl that nobody else will. Will she make it back across alive?

Review
In this installment, Eugenie is surprised to learn that many demons know her name now. She has a one-night-stand with a hot man called Kiyo, who leaves deep, long of scratches on her back, and although she isn't sure whether he is a human or not, she can't stop thoughts of him from invading her mind.

Eugenie has made up her mind to cross over to rescue a girl - Wil Delany's sister, who has been kidnapped by the fey. Eugenie tries to keep this out of her mother's knowledge, but her mother is not ignorant - the woman knows that her daughter is up to something. She is upset and fears for her only daughter's safety.

Eugenie is a headstrong character - when she decides to do something, she'll do it despite the odds not being in her favour. Being strong, competent, clever and fearless, she is an immensely likeable heroine, though sometimes I think it would be better if she can think twice before doing anything.

Dark Swan, Storm Born Vol. 1 by Richelle Mead
E-book available at Sea Lion Books for $3.99
Pre-order (Hardcover) at Amazon.com for $13.29
Genre: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Adult

Synopsis
Eugenie Markham never asked for any of this. Until now, she's been content with her job as a freelance shaman, battling and banishing Otherworldly creatures. When a prophecy suddenly makes her the Otherworld's most popular bachelorette, Eugenie finds herself fighting off unwanted supernatural suitors, as well as the evils that begin emerging from her past...

Review
I've never read the original novel of Dark Swan by Richelle Mead, but I'm certainly impressed - the graphic novel adaptation looks (and reads) awesome! In this first volume, we are introduced to a kick-ass heroine, Eugenie Markham, who is more commonly known as Odile / the Dark Swan. Eugenie is in truth a powerful shaman, someone who can harness magic and send otherworldly creatures who cross into the mortal world back to where they come from.

The artwork is detailed and attractive, and I can see that the artist put a lot of effort into creating the flawless images. The minor characters are likable (well, except for the demons) and well-drawn. They serve to improve the flow of the story in their respective ways. We catch glimpses of Eugenie's human life, her characteristics, and her "extra-curricular" activities clearly.

This book is full of action
, but contains obscenities, sex and violence. If you like reading urban fantasy or paranormal romance, you'd most likely find this book enjoyable. However, I won't recommend this to teenagers as this book is targeted towards adults.
