I'm currently reading Artemis Fowl (Paperback) by Eoin Colfer. I like the sound of "child prodigy" and "criminal mastermind", but I think the fairy part more or less ruined my good impression of the book. Take a look at the cover and blurb below:
Twelve-year-old Artemis is a millionaire, a genius and above all, a criminal mastermind. But Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the fairies of bedtime stories -- they're dangerous! Full of unexpected twists and turns, Artemis Fowl is a riveting, magical adventure.

It's not a bad read.
There's lots of detailed descriptions on the gadgets and stuff.
:)
I'm currently reading Delirium by Lauren Oliver. It's fantastic so far!
@FairyWhispers: Have you read the whole series? How do you like it?
@Kimberly: Delirium is on my wish list! So excited about it! :)

i loved this whole series!
@FairyWhispers: I don't really like the fairies using gadgets part, (I mean, don't they have magic?) but as the story progressed, I think it's not so bad after all.
@vvb32 reads: Seems like there's another Fowl's fan here!
